Who we are, what we do...
Blue Thermal is a paragliding company located on the west coast of Canada, in the province of British Columbia, thirty minutes north of the US border.
The coastal mountains of BC offer some of the best flying in North America as well as some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. You can soar with seagulls off of a ridge site only minutes from downtown Victoria, or head to the mountains where 10,000 ft altitude gains are possible.

For years mankind has dreamed of flying - equating the experience of soaring like an eagle with the ultimate freedom. It is a unique experience and a genuine privilege to live at a time in history when we are able to do just that - to go where eagles roam.
The pure pleasure and exhilaration of free flight must never be taken for granted, and those who recognize this will make every available effort to acquire the requisite skills and the proper equipment to become the safest possible pilots. This is a never ending process that will continue for as long as you fly.
It is with this in mind that we have made it our philosophy to be the best available resource to help you find the most suitable equipment and the right instructor for your needs. Whether it is to hone your skills in cross-country flying, or aerobatics, or safety maneuvers, we will guide you to the right source.
We have also spent a great deal of time studying the various manufacturers and the products and materials on the market today. We believe that the product line of gliders, harnesses and accessories that we carry are among the best currently available.
The principals of Blue Thermal are respected and highly visible pilots in western Canada.
Amir Izadi began paragliding in 1998. He is an avid competition pilot and was the no. 1 ranked Canadian pilot at the World Championships in 2005. Currently, he is ranked no. 3 in Canada under the WPRS (world paragliding ranking score). Amir is also an instructor and tandem pilot with over 1000 hours of experience from at least 60 different sites across sixteen countries.
Travelling the world, flying new sites, and meeting new people has always been a great passion of his. Amir has flown throughout Europe, Central and South America, the Middle East, Australia and Tibet.
Ever eager to explore new places and fly from new sites, in September of 2002 Amir and a fellow pilot hiked and flew off of Mt. Ararat in Turkey. This was the the first attempt of its kind as far as they're aware. And no, they did not find Noah's Ark.
He is also an avid outdoorsman and long distance cyclist. He has cycled solo across Europe, North Africa and along the entire west coast of North America.
Amir is a health care professional and holds a Masters of Public Health from Harvard University. He works part time as an instructor and tandem pilot in Victoria, BC where he lives. For leasure he reads, writes, plays music and chess, and, of course, flies.
